Welcome to Red Comet Press

This is the realization of a long-held dream. The past year has forced us to reevaluate our priorities and reflect on our future. Launching a new publishing company seemed at once a crazy proposition, but also the absolute right thing to do. What better way to spend the long days of isolation than incubating a new business?

At Red Comet Press, we will focus on the craft of publishing and curating a list of hand-picked titles. We will shepherd them through the publishing process, from creator to reader, with care and attention to detail. When we acquired these first books, it was a sign. They are inventive, surprising, touching, and multi-layered—and they remind me, upon every reading, of the passion and creativity that drew me to this business in the first place.

Cat & Dog: A Tale Of Opposites

Cat & Dog: A Tale Of Opposites

Each of our books speaks to me in a different way. Packed with humor and drama between two highly-relatable characters is Tullio Corda’s Cat & Dog, a brilliant example of storytelling born out of a simple concept. There may only be 32 words, but so much of this book’s genius is in the visual narrative that accompanies the text, with multiple storylines happening at once.

Before We Sleep is more than a charming friendship story: it is an ode to the bedtime ritual. At the end of the year, two friends must part, but all is well with the promise of a reunion come spring. Warm, expressive illustrations by Paolo Proietti characterize this gentle and reassuring tale by Giorgio Volpe.

And who could not fall for Mister Fairy, who has yet to find his special gift to share with the world? Travel with him on his quest to discover his talent which, as it turns out, he’s had all along. Morgane de Cadier’s delightful book represents the journey so many of us must make to find our own place in the world, complemented by Florian Pige’s stylized, sweet, and humorous illustrations.

A spectacular combination of intricate illustration and enchanting storytelling in The Secret of the Magic Pearl brings the picture book format to older readers. Set in a charming small town on the Italian coast, the book is infused with mystery and magic. There is so much to explore in Iacopo Bruno’s detailed illustrations of Elisa Sabatinelli's accomplished, satisfying tale, in which a young boy named Hector strives to save what matters most: the sea, his family, and his dream..

I consider myself so very lucky to have discovered these four treasures for Red Comet’s inaugural list. I sincerely hope you enjoy them as much as I do. As for what you’ll find on the next list? Watch this space for more comets soaring across the sky.
